Junior Great Books

Sign-up below by October 3rd, 2016!

Parents we need you to lead these groups! If you can lead a group please add your info to the student sign-up form.

This is a optional program for students in grades 2 – 6. Each week students will be assigned a story to read from their Junior Great Books reader, which will be loaned to them at no cost for the term of the program. Students meet with their classmates during their lunch period one day per week, for a period of seven weeks. The parent leader will facilitate group discussion. The stories tend to be fables that promote critical thinking and a thoughtful, respectful exchange of ideas.

To accommodate the large number of students, half of the kids will meet in the fall (beginning the week of October 17th) and the other half will meet after winter break (beginning the week of Jan 9th). The same material will be covered in each session. Smaller size groups will allow for more productive and enjoyable meetings for everyone. There is no guarantee that students will be placed with their friends and special requests will not be honored. Your parent volunteer will communicate regularly important details of the program.

Please consult your child before signing them up and make sure this is something they really want to do because they enjoy reading and want to participate in a thoughtful group discussion! There will be a $10.00 charge for lost books.
